Dongguan, attracting worldwide attention again

The 2008 Finals of the LivCom Awards, endorsed by United Nations Environment Programme, will be held at Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industry Park, Dongguan, China from November 6th to 10th.

One-time doles no help in tackling big issues

The city government of Dongguan, in Guangdong province, announced that it was planning to distribute more than 120 million yuan ($17.6 million) in "red envelope" money to the poorest residents of the city. Each qualified citizen would receive 1,000 yuan ($144) as living subsidy to help cope with high inflation.

Dongguan to start motorcycle ban

Guangzhou has banned motorcycle earlier this year, and Dongguan is following suit. From September 1, motorcycles can only be on the road from 8 pm to 4 am. "This arrangement is to provide convenience to vegetable wholesalers," Liu Zhigeng, Party Secretary of Dongguan, said, "motorcycle taxi will be totally banned."
